#MHForAll Webinar Series

Throughout the year, we conduct webinars exploring various aspects and intersections of mental health, showcasing the transformative work being led by Action Network members.

These webinars offer diverse perspectives from the field including academics, UN agency representatives, civil society advocates, grassroots leaders, donors and more! Sessions are designed to spark thinking and provide insights into what global mental health means today, how it is practised and how change can happen. They are designed to offer practical solutions to address the most pressing challenges in mental health.

Youth Reimagining Leadership in Mental Health

Register now!

Anxiety and depression alone in adolescents make up 40% of the global burden of disease. More than 1 in 7 adolescents are living with a diagnosed mental health condition, such as depression, anxiety, or behavioural disorders, with 50% of these beginning before the age of 18 (and almost two-thirds by the age of 25). Each year, an estimated 45,800 adolescents tragically lose their lives to suicide, leading to suicide being the third leading cause of death among people aged 15 to 29, with youth suicides increasing in most parts of the world for years.

And yet, funding for youth mental health is consistently lagging behind, across prevention, care and research, compared to the levels that are needed to bring a decisive shift. Young people are more than beneficiaries of mental health interventions - they are experts in the programmes and circumstances that affect their own mental health and should be fully included and facilitated to lead in discussions and decisions about their wellbeing.

Over the next decade, we also face major global demographic changes and the largest wealth transfer to younger generations in history. As youth of today inherit systems not meant for their highest good, meaningful youth leadership is not innate but intentionally created.

We often hear the terms youth leader, advocate, changemaker. When are these buzzwords and when do they hold real depth and direction? What happens when youth lead, and lead differently? In this webinar, we turn to people living these questions. Through their stories and reflections, we’ll hear how they navigate mental health spaces with care and purpose.

Our expert panel explored the role of lived experience in creating the future of mental health policy, practice, science and advocacy, as well as what we need to understand to make this future a reality.
